Marine monitoring and survey
The SeaMôr Marine Biology team and the hard boat Islander can be hired to carry out scientific monitoring, including marine mammal and bird surveys.
The Islander provides an excellent platform for cliffside coastal surveys as it’s shallow draft and quiet engines allow for easy access close to the seabird breeding or seal pupping sites.
The team has experience in surveying small and large cetaceans, using both visual and acoustic methods including land based theodolite tracking, line-transect surveys, photo-identification, towed hydrophones and static acoustic monitoring.
Previous work has included bottlenose dolphin and harbour porpoise surveys in Cardigan Bay, sea bird breeding counts, static acoustic monitoring work for small cetaceans, benthic trawling and grey seal photo-identification.
